Your relatives said “Wake Up Early Equals Success”- But the reality is “DON’T SAY THIS WAY!”

“WAKE UP EARLY IF YOU WANT TO BE SUCCESS” — This is a sentence that you can easily be heard from , , or to guide people on how to have an effective working day.

Personally, I enjoy waking up early to do exercise and feel comfortable to do it daily. But I also notice that many people don’t feel enjoy to wake up early but still working pretty well in their tasks and very successful in their life, such as Mark Zuckerberg at 8 a.m, Jonah Peretti (CEO Buzzfeed) at 8:30 a.m, Alexis Ohanian (Cofounder Reddit) at 10:00 a.m, etc — following .

So I believe that if we use the term “morning bird” to say that you need to wake up early to be a success is not really fair with the people who be knowns as “night owl” and be very productive in the evening instead of the morning time.

And to know what kind of person you are, I highly recommend you to read the research of . In her study, she suggests a three-week experiment to check if you are the “morning bird” or “night owl”; and clarify when your energy, focus, and motivation will get a peak in a day.

Then, from that, you can adjust your schedule to achieve the most by using your peak time to do the most important things in your day.

And because everyone has , therefore, it doesn’t matter whether you’re a night owl or morning bird; or if you want to do exercise at 5 am or 5 pm. Unless you can make your day effectively, the time when you start to go to sleep or wake up is not that important.

When it comes to success and productivity, what we want to consider is the final result that we can get from what we did, it doesn’t mean about when you do the tasks to achieve this goal. As Stephen Covey used to mention in his book —

We must never become too busy sawing to take time to sharpen the saw. — Mr. Stephen R. Covey

So let focus on the things that can help you to achieve the goals and make you have the best performance rather than considering what others think the best suit for you.

“Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.” — Albert Einstein

Someone will achieve the most when they are “Morning bird” while someone will achieve the outstanding result when they are the “night owl”. And which one is the best suit for you will depend on your choice, not someone else!
