Mindset & Life lessons
5 Habits for a growth mindset.
“Yes, of course!” — This is the answer that all 99% of people will immediately reply to you. And 1% will think for a while before also saying YES!
But to answer the question “how to be a successful person?” is not that easy, and while each person will have different ways to find out their personal success, there is one thing in common that anyone who wants to be wealthy needs to have is Growth Mindset.
And the growth mindset will be the main factor to determine your success in your career if you want to believe or not.
We all hear about this term many times in life, but actually do you already have a fully understand about what does it mean?
Let me tell you in the next 4 lines for this concept in a simple but fully meaning.
Growth Mindset means people believe that their most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work — brains and talent are just the starting point. This view creates a love of learning and a resilience that is essential for great accomplishment” follow Edglossary
It means that whatever you really want to have in your life will come not from your luck, but from your hard work and self-improvement on a daily basis to achieve your goals.
So why your success be mattered by your growth mindset?
Because if you are having a “fixed mindset”, you will mostly not achieve your goals. The reason is your fixed mindset will encourage you to do the fixed things to achieve the fixed results, and the success is come from the outstanding results rather than from a fixed result that anyone can do.
But the world is changing every day. And if your learning curve doesn’t change and you still using the old beliefs and knowledge from the 15th century to work in the 21st century, you will lose your ability to succeed.
Let have an example, if you have a fixed mindset, you will believe that we need to go to offices, stores to work to actually earn money. And the concept of staying at home and still can earn the same of amount money you earn when going to the office (or even more) is impossible for you to believe in.
But this is the reality nowadays, during COVID-19, the term “work from home” becomes a phenomenon when every staff works from their homes, and leaders have met on Zoom, Skype instead of having an offline meeting.
YES, so it is possible because of the new technology to help us can work from anywhere with anyone on the world that we want to connect with, just need to have an internet connection and your laptop.
And if you have a fixed mindset that doesn’t want to adapt to the new waves of technologies, you will go behind and lose your ability to connect with more people and meet more opportunities in your life.
But when you have a growth mindset, you will consider the trend to work from home as your opportunity, it helps you to learn more, meet more people from all parts of the world. Because the physical distance now is not a problem, you can stay in a coffee shop in Melbourne while joining a seminar in San Fransisco;
Or you can have more time for your children because you don’t need to go to the office and if you can do the tasks faster, you can finish the working day earlier (depend on your productivity, not based on the time you sit in the office anymore).
“How you can build up or improve your growth mindset?”
To change someone’s mindset from “fixed” to “growth” is quite tough and take time, but it doesn’t mean that you can’t do it.
Anyone who really wants to be better and achieve more in their life needs to practice the habits to grow your mindset to the next level. Because
The more growth mindset you have, the more money you can earn!
And in the following part, I will show you 5 ways to help you build up and develop your growth mindset this year effectively.
1. Practice daily learning habit
This is one of the first and most important methods to have a growth mindset. By practicing learning every day, it helps your mind to learn many new knowledge and experiences to make better decisions for your life.
You can choose to learn by reading books, listening to podcasts, watching Youtube videos, or reading the news. But one important notice is “Focus on learning the valuable and positive things, not the negative one”.
I say that because I know many people read a lot of information on the news every day, but they just focus on reading the negative, the shocks, gossips news to have somethings to chat with their friends when they are in the office or coffee shop.
And I’m sure with you it is not the way you grow your “growth mindset”, even you spend hours to read daily.
The things that really help you to grow your mindset is the pieces of valuable information, the positive lessons that share the experts, the experienced people to help you solve a problem in your life or make you be a better person. And these are the things that gossip news can not help you to do!
2. Replace negative thoughts to be positive ones
The negative thoughts like the toxic for your mind. It will reduce your ability to achieve your dream, make you concern about your ability to do the job; while actually if you don’t have these negative thoughts, you can easily to get the task done effectively.
Let take an example as you are on the stage to make an important speech to your colleagues or your classmates. Most of us will be nervous at this moment, and if at this time, if you keep in your mind that “So many people, I’m so afraid, maybe I will forget what I will say”. Then, you probably forget it.
But if you switch your mind to be “Well, so many people, I’m so afraid, but I practice a lot and I know that after this speech, people will remember me as a good speaker who can speak emotionally and bring the values for them”. Then, you will do the speech as well as you thought. This is the power of positive thinking.
3. Value the process over the result.
Always remember that the journey is more matter than the destination. Because if you just focus on the destination without enjoys the challenges, the small achievements during your journey, “you can’t go this far to reach the highest mountain”.
And when we talk about a growth mindset, it is more about the journey to develop yourself to be a better person rather than talking about a specific time that you will be considered as having a “growth mindset”.
Because the reality is we don’t have the destination for the thing called “Growth mindset”. This is unlimited and depends on each person that can achieve a different level in the term “Growth mindset”.
4. Be realistic.
“Growth mindset” will take time to achieve, because every new skill, knowledge need time to be consumed by your brain.
And being realistic with your timeline to achieve the things you want in your life will help you to control your mind and don’t be rushed to do the things in a silly way.
And when you be realistic with all the goals that you want to achieve in the timeline, the process you need to do. It means that you are practice to send a signal to your brain that
“Things take times to do, but the right ways to approach will create the real good values”
5. Replace “Failing” with “Learning”
Anytime you think you fail in your life, actually, it is a lesson. And it just can be considered as a real failure if you fail to learn a lesson from it!
By keeping this attitude in your mind, it turns any of your failures into a real valuable lesson for you to learn and grow from it.
And the more failures you have, the more lessons you learn, and the better decisions you will make for the bigger challenges.
Your mindset will get the best benefit from it. Because not the success but the failure helps you most in having a growth mindset.
As mentioned in the title of the story “The Growth Mindset Matters Your Success”, I have a strong belief that anyone of us can become a success, we just need to have the right mindset and keep doing the things that need to do to achieve our goals.
